Lucky Sevens for Jordan Szoke Cashes into a Perfect Season

Posted: 10-Aug-2010

Jordan Szoke wrote history this weekend at the 11 turn 1.6 mile Atlantic Motorsport Park course in Shubenacadie NS on his Honda CBR1000RR and CBR600RR.  Szoke took home his seventh title with a perfect season in the Canadian National Superbike Championship. Szoke earned all seven pole positions and all seven victories making him the only Superbike racer to have done so in history. Jordan also closes off the season with the most National Superbike championships ever won by a Canadian Roadracer, ironically, seven.  "This is a dream come true," says Szoke "there has never been a perfect season in motorcycling other than Ricky Carmichael, so to share that statistic with someone like him is pretty special."
image
Szoke wrapped up his Superbike championship on Saturday with another victory leading from start to finish.  An unfortunate red flag involving two competitors called the race early on lap 20 of 22.  Sunday’s race went from flag to flag with Jordan again leading every lap finishing 2.817 seconds over his next competitor and earning him his last Canadian National checkered flag of his perfect 376 point season.

Not only did Szoke dominate the Superbike Championship but he also wrapped up his fifth consecutive Pro Sportbike title on Saturday. This ties him with the legendary Don Munroe for Sportbike championships. "I am always trying to stand alone in the record books," smiles Szoke "but to share a statistic with someone like Don Munroe is cool with me."

Szoke finished fourth on Saturdays race after finding an air fence two corners from the finish while attempting a pass for the lead.  Szoke was determined to put on a show for the legendary Shubie fans on Sunday. He executed a perfect pass to get out front and stretched a 4.396 second lead before claiming yet another checkered flag in Pro Sportbike.  Szoke finishes his Sportbike season with 352 points.  "I never really thought of myself as a 600 rider, but the past 5 years has brought me allot of success." says Jordan.
image
The Waznie Racing Ciclo Werks BMC DeWildt Honda team worked extremely hard all season, alongside the crew from Fast Company, and were also awarded the prestigious Inside Motorcycles Team of The Year award. John Hopkins, of Inside Motorcycles, presented the award to Jordan and his entire crew stating "It is pretty hard to argue with perfection."

This is the first season that Szoke has taken on a managerial role of his own team.  "Working with Scott Miller from Fast Company has really leapfrogged our learning curve this season." says Jordan. "Scott's experience and expertise was an important part of our team, without the crew's hard work and dedication we wouldn't be where we are today."
image
Jordan's wife Amy Szoke also competed in the National Amateur Sportbike championship and supporting Atlantic Roadracing League Amateur Superbike feature class on her Honda CBR600RR. Amy finished 12th and 14th in the Amateur National Class, completing her first National Season in 9th place.  Amy also finishes 7th and 10th in the supporting Amateur Superbike class.

"All season I was looking to be faster than last year." says Amy. "We managed to drop time at each and every track this season which makes me pretty happy." Amy was an addition to the Waznie Racing Ciclo Werks BMC DeWildt Honda team for the 2010 season. "I loved working alongside my husband Jordan all year, it was pretty awesome to watch what the professionals do.  That alone has helped me immensely." grins Szoke "My crew chief Jim-Jim worked his butt off all year, and Jordan really dedicated his time and effort to coach me, I had so (so) much fun."

When asked about the future holds for Jordan Szoke he replies "I still want to ride, I am young and healthy enough to have many years left at this level.  I believe that with my experience and results I would be a good asset to any team weather it is in the US, overseas or here in Canada."

"We would like to send our special thanks to the sponsors listed below." says the Szoke's of Waznie Racing. "We came to you all late in the game asking for help and you all came through.  Thank you for making our 2010 season possible, and here's too many more seasons to come."

Waznie Racing would like to thank: Waznie Racing Inc, Ciclo Werks , BMC Swiss Cycling Technology , Dewildt Honda, Fast Company, Joe Rocket, Monster Energy, Shoei, Pirelli, Akrapovic, Honda Pro Oils, Hot Bodies, Motovan, eatsleepride.com, TCX Boots, EBC Brakes, LighTech, Sunstar, DID, Oakley, Ogio, BK Designs, PUG, VP Fuels, Samco, Hinson, Stomp Grip, oppracing.com, Chickenhawk, Just Transmissions , Strodes, Bodyline Fitness, Robot Pirate Ninja Productions, u-vu.ca

KENNINGTON SCORES THIRD WIN OF THE SEASON

Posted: 05-Aug-2010

August 5, 2010.  DJ Kennington, driver of the #17 Castrol Edge/Mahindra Tractors/Hitachi Tools Dodge continued his momentum from the weekend through round number seven of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.  Kennington would pick up his third pole position of the season setting a new track record in doing so at Auto Clearing Speedway in Saskatoon.  He would then go on to claim his third victory of the season and reclaim the overall point standings lead.

Right from the first practice laps the #17 Castrol Edge/Mahindra Tractors/Hitachi Tools Dodge showed the kind of pace it has all year on oval tracks, it was simply fast.  “This car has been so strong right from the first race of the season” said Kennington.  “Just some fine tuning is all we’ve done during the practice session” he added.

Rolling out third for qualifying Kennington posted a lap time of 14.824 seconds in the #17 Castrol Edge/Mahindra Tractors/Hitachi Tools Dodge setting a new fast lap record for the 1/3 mile oval that no one could touch.  “I wasn’t positive it would hold up but it did and first spot is where you always want to start” summarized Kennington.

When the green flag waved for the 250 lap feature event Kennington would relinquish the lead for the first few laps but would have the #17 Castrol Edge/Mahindra Tractors/Hitachi Tools Dodge back out front on lap seven.  “Just like the last race this car was just a pleasure to drive right from the start of the race” said the driver.

Following a long green flag run that took the race past the 200 lap mark Kennington relinquished the lead.  During only the second yellow flag caution period he would make his scheduled pit stop for fuel and tires for the #17 Castrol Edge/Mahindra Tractors/Hitachi Tools Dodge.  “That pit stop is what won the race for us” said Kennington emphatically.  “I’ve got the best team in this series and they ripped off a pit stop that got us back out front and I just had to keep it there” he said.

Kennington would be challenged during the remaining laps but never relinquished the lead of the race.  He would bring the #17 Castrol Edge/Mahindra Tractors/Hitachi Tools Dodge to the checkered flag and claim his third win of the seven races run so far this season.  “I was driving it pretty good at the end” said the very happy driver.  “A couple of times they tried to get a run on me but we were able to hold them off.  We had a great finish at Vernon and to follow that up with a win here is going to make for a pretty good ride back home” he concluded.

Of note:  Following a NASCAR imposed penalty on the #3 car following the event at Motoplex Speedway Kennington was awarded second place in the final results of that event.  Coupled with his victory at Auto Clearing Speedway he has retaken the overall championship lead by fourteen points.

The series returns to eastern Canada and road racing for round number eight during the Grand Prix of Trois Rivieres on Sunday August 15th.  Follow the progress of the #17 Castrol Edge/Mahindra Tractors Dodge all season on the newly redesigned website www.djkracing.ca plus you can follow their daily activities at www.twitter.com/djkracing.  You’re also invited to join the Facebook Group DJK Racing.

ANOTHER TOP-TEN FINISH FOR ANTHONY SIMONE

Posted: 05-Aug-2010

August 5, 2010.  For the third consecutive race during the western swing of the NASCAR Canadian Tire series Anthony Simone and the #95 Rx100 Chevrolet team showed that their early season difficulties are long since behind them as they posted another outstanding finish during round number seven at Auto Clearing Speedway in Saskatoon, SK.  For the third consecutive event the team finished in the top-ten and improved their position in the overall championship standings.

During practice the #95 Rx100 Chevrolet looked to be among the quickest cars on the 1/3 mile high banked oval track.  However during qualifying Simone did not have the car handling the way he expected and would manage only the thirteenth best time.  “It was a bit unusual and not what we expected at all” said Simone.  “The front end of the car just didn’t hold the way we believe it would and we ended up further back than we should have been” he added.

When the green flag waved to begin the 250 lap feature the handling characteristics of the #95 Rx100 Chevrolet would make for a difficult night for the team.  “We ended up battling a loose race car all night” said the frustrated driver.  “No matter what we tried to get the car handling the way we needed it to it was a struggle for us” he added.

Though not having the kind of performance from the #95 Rx100 Chevrolet he’d hoped Simone continued to battle for each and every position on the track.  “We did the best we could with the car we had and the team worked really hard to make the car better and I’m really pleased that we were able to gain some positions” said the driver.  “The whole team did their best to make it better and I gave it everything I could”.

Simone would use all his talents to gain four positions from his starting spot and capture a finishing position of ninth.  “We absolutely wore the right rear tire off the car, it was that loose” said the driver.  “So to come out of here with a top-ten finish we can’t really complain about that” he stated.

This marks the third consecutive top-ten finish for the #95 Rx100 Chevrolet and the momentum for the team continues to build.  “To come out of this three race western swing with a second, a fifth and a ninth place finish after the tough start our team had is really great” said Simone.  “We’ve got things turned around and we’re looking forward to the next event at Trois Rivieres and we’ll have the problems we had tonight sorted out for the next oval race too” he added.

Of note:  Following a NASCAR imposed penalty on the#3 team at Motoplex Speedway the #95 Rx100 Chevrolet team was classified fifth in the official results of that race.  Following three consecutive top-ten finishes Anthony Simone now sits eighth in the overall championship standings.

BEAUCHAMP BATTLES WITH LOOSE CONDITION AT SASKATOON

Posted: 05-Aug-2010

August 1, 2010.  Ron Beauchamp and the #60 Mopar Parts/Mobil 1/Exide Batteries Dodge team expected another strong showing in the final event of the western Canada swing for the NASCAR Canadian Tire series at Auto Clearing Speedway in Saskatoon.  However, following a solid practice session and qualifying run the cars handling characteristics would let them down and leaving the team struggling for answers.

During practice on the 1/3 mile oval Beauchamp had the #60 Mopar Parts/Mobil 1/Exide Batteries Dodge among the top running cars for much of the session.  “We made a few changes trying to improve the car near the end of practice and we slowed down a bit” said Beauchamp.  “So we went back to where we were and knew what to expect from the car” he added.

During qualifying Beauchamp again showed plenty of speed in the #60 Mopar Parts/Mobil 1/Exide Batteries Dodge posting the fourth quickest qualifying run putting him on the outside of row two for the 250 lap feature event.  “It was a good run for us” smiled the driver afterwards.  “I just want to make sure I can get to the inside line quickly off the start” he added.

As the race began Beauchamp was running in or near the top-five in the field for much of the early going before feeling the #60 Mopar Parts/Mobil 1/Exide Batteries Dodge start to develop a loose condition.  “The car was starting to become a handful so we decided during the first caution to come in for some fuel and a handling adjustment” explained the driver.

When the race restarted Beauchamp was still unable to have the handling he needed from the #60 Mopar Parts/Mobil 1/Exide Batteries Dodge.  And the race would remain under green for 150 laps not allowing the team to make their scheduled stop for new tires that would improve the situation.  “There was nothing we could do” said the disappointed driver.  “If we’d been able to make a stop sooner the crew could have dialed the car in a little more and I know we would have been able to finish in a better position than eleventh” he added.

Even with the less than satisfying result Ron Beauchamp Jr. and the #60 Mopar Parts/Mobil 1/Exide Batteries Dodge remain ninth in the overall championship standings just three points from eighth spot.  “It says a lot about how good this team is and how hard the crew works to have all the damage on this car repaired after the hit we took in the last race.  Everybody worked a couple of really long days and got it done and did a great job” said the driver.

Ron Beauchamp Jr. and the #60 Mopar Parts/Mobil 1/Exide Batteries Dodge Team will compete in all thirteen races on the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.  Round number eight will take place on Sunday August 15th at the Grand Prix of Trois Rivieres.  All events this season will again be broadcast on TSN, For more information about Team Mopar go online to www.mopar.ca and for series information check out www.nascar.ca.

BEST QUALIFYING EFFORT FOR DEREK WHITE THIS SEASON

Posted: 05-Aug-2010

August 5, 2010.  Arriving at Auto Clearing Speedway in Saskatoon for round number seven of the NASCAR Canadian Tire series Derek White and the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet Race Team expected to shake off the tough luck that has taken away the possibility of more solid finishes this year.  After the team worked several long days and nights preparing for the race their efforts were rewarded.

During the practice session for the race the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet showed plenty of speed and White posted some impressive times.  “I was really happy with how well the car ran during the afternoon” said White.  “We took a big leap forward with the car” he added.

White backed up his performance during qualifying by posting and outstanding qualifying lap that was good enough to gain him the seventh starting spot on the grid.  “The car was just as good during qualifying, good speed and handled great, the whole team was really pumped up after that qualifying time” said the driver.

The next step for White and the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet team was to carry that performance through the 250 lap feature event.  As the race began White found himself under fire from plenty of other fast cars.  “These guys are the best racers in the country and I wanted to use the great track position we had to learn from them, but also not be in the way” said White.  “The car continued to run great so I just took it easy to see how the race sorted out” he added.

White did fall several positions in the field but knew their patience would be rewarded if they continued to run well.  Following a caution period near lap 50 the race stayed green for a long run taking a huge toll on all of the cars including the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet.

Around lap 200 White knew there was something wrong with the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet and pulled off the track to allow the crew to assess the situation.  A part failure with the right front bearings would end their day prematurely.  “We had a car that was going to have a great finish” said White “but unfortunately it was a minor little part failure that finished us” he said.

Where some might be frustrated with such a conclusion to their race White was extremely proud of the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet team.  “All of the guys on this team worked their butts off to get this car ready.  They started right after the race in Vernon and had a couple of really long days but they did a great job.  I’m really excited about the rest of the season now that we’ve got the car working the way we want it” said the driver.

Derek White and the #99 DPW/OCR Gas Bar Team are scheduled to race next on Sunday August 15th at the Grand Prix of Trois Rivieres.  The team is scheduled to compete in all thirteen series races this season. As in years past all NCATS races will also be seen on TSN.  You can follow the team all year long by following this link to their website and by logging onto www.nascar.ca

PIERRE BOURQUE READY FOR SASKATOON STOP IN THE AARON’S DREAM MACHINE

Posted: 03-Aug-2010

Ottawa, ON (August 3, 2010) NASCAR driver Pierre Bourque has some unfinished business to attend to at Saskatoon’s Auto Clearing Motor Speedway where he will again be behind the wheel of the #00 Aaron’s Dream Machine Dodge for the next scheduled event of Canadian NASAR series.

After a strong showing that was cut short by a three-car wreck last Saturday evening at Vernon, BC, Bourque is anxious to get back into the Dream Machine to pick up where he was forced to leave off. "We have a fantastic car that is ready to run with the leaders. I can hardly wait for the Velocity Prairie Thunder 250 to begin."

This is the final of three consecutive events in western Canada.  Bourque is looking forward to another exciting event in the west and showing off the #00 Aaron’s Dream Machine Dodge to a sell-out crowd.

The series visited Auto Clearing Speedway for the first time in 2009 and it was also the first ever midweek event for the race teams.  “Everyone wondered how big a crowd there would be for a Wednesday night race” said Bourque.  “But as soon as we saw the how fast the grand stands filled up we knew it would be a special night.  During the autograph session and after the race we met so many wonderful people, it was a great time” he added.

Having a beautiful racing facility is another attraction for the fans and the teams.  “This is a fun one third mile track with high banks in the corners” stated Bourque.  “It is a good track to drive the #00 Aaron’s Dream Machine Dodge to really push the performance envelope” he added.

Bourque is also looking for a solid finish at Auto Clearing Speedway with the #00 Aaron’s Dream Machine Dodge to boost his position in the overall championship standings.  “Getting caught up in that Vernon incident was a big disappointment but we still managed to a hang onto the top-ten in points” said the driver.  “If we get the kind of finishing result we’re expecting in Saskatoon then we can move up in the standings, we’re only 14 points from ninth and 24 points from eighth overall” he stated.  "With a little bit of the ol' Aaron's Lucky Dog behind us, we're looking for a strong top 10 finish in the race and a jump up in the standings. That's our goal for Saskatoon. It's doable."

Racing action begins on track with practice for Pierre Bourque in the #00 Aaron’s Dream Machine Dodge at 1:30PM, qualifying takes place at 5PM and the green flag for the 250 lap feature is at 7:30PM.

ENGINE WOES FOR DEREK WHITE AT VERNON

Posted: 03-Aug-2010

August 1, 2010.  Derek White and the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet Race Team took to the track for round number six of the NASCAR Canadian Tire series at Motoplex Speedway near Vernon, BC looking to improve their recent fortunes.  In the early part of the day the outlook was promising, however engine gremlins would end their night early.

Even before the afternoon practice session Derek White added some veteran racing experience to his team.  “Brad Macintyre came to the race just to watch” explained White.  “He’s got a lot of experience and helped a few different teams in a number of series so we put him to work” he added.

White noticed an improvement to the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet right away.  “The car felt better than it has all season” smiled the driver.  “It was really handling well and I felt good about our chances” he added.

White posted his best qualifying effort of the season in the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet and knew that the 300 lap feature event would be a significant challenge.  “With such a long race we just wanted to take our time and be patient, get as much seat time as possible and learn all I can” said the driver.

While the day started well fortunes can change quickly in auto racing and the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet team found that out.  Shortly after the green flag waved to begin the race White knew something was wrong.  “We just didn’t have the power and the speed we did earlier in the day” said White.

After only a handful of laps White would bring the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet to pit lane and after a quick look under the hood the team knew their night was over.  We had a problem in the engine and it finished us early, this was the last thing we expected to happen” said the frustrated driver.

Though their race finished early White is very optimistic about the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet team going forward.  “These guys worked so damn hard today on this car and did a fantastic job” he said enthusiastically.  “We improved the car a lot and I’m sure we’re going to be really good in the next race at Saskatoon” he concluded.

Derek White and the #99 DPW/OCR Gas Bar Team is scheduled to race next this Wednesday August 4th at Auto Clearing Speedway in Saskatoon, SK.  The team is scheduled to compete in all thirteen series races this season. As in years past all NCATS races will also be seen on TSN.  You can follow the team all year long by following this link to their website and by logging onto www.nascar.ca
